My Korean Skincare Routine 2018

I’ve been working on my skin care routine for years, I love trying out new products and introducing new ingredients to my skin. I have combination, acne prone skin with very oily T-zone and I’m 33 so I’ve become interested in anti-aging too. My biggest concern is hormonal acne and PIE (Post Inflammatory Erythema). I’m not taking any medication nor birth control pills so all I can rely on is my skin care routine based on (mostly) Korean cosmetics. Here’s what I enjoy using lately in my morning and evening routine!

My favourite products:
Alcohol and fragrance free products:

1. Face Wash
I tried to wash my face with only water in the morning but I failed making it a habbit. Luckily there are a lot of gentle, pH balanced, non-drying cleansers now in the market!

2. Toner
I used to think toners were useless but I was so wrong! Toners are meant to pH balance and prepare your skin for the next step, making it easier for the rest of the products to absorb. They can remove impurities, dead skin cells, residue left from your cleanser etc. I prefer hydratating, alcohol and fragrance free toners the most. Korean toners are the best, period! 🙂

3. Face Mist
You can use it after or instead of toner. I don’t think it is an important step but ceramides are so important for your skin and the Holike Good Cera toner and mist are amazing! 🙂

4. Exfoliant
In the morning I avoid using active ingredients, the only exception is BHA. BHAs help keeping your pores clean, prevent pimples and sooth skin.

5. Ampoule/Essence
Korean ampoules and essences are superior in my opinion. If you can have only one Korean product, choose a good essence! Endless of choices, fantastic ingredient lists, affordable price and some serious skin care benefit, these are the real selling points in my eyes. Ampoules are usually focusing on one ingredient, these are concentrated liquids, perfect for certain skin issues. Essences are usually all about fermented ingredients and impressive INCIs, they are great for anti-aging too!

6. Lotion/Emulsion

7. Facial Cream
There are SO MANY good, Korean cream, it is really hard to choose only one! That’s why I always have several on my desk… 😀 But I don’t mind it at all! The Chok Chok Grean Tea cream is perfect for most skin types, I totally get it why it is so popular. My tip for people with oily and acne prone skin: try out the COSRX Centella Blemish cream! The texture is strange but it makes the pores and spots less visible and it can mattify the skin too.

8. Sunscreen
I use sunscreen every single day for the last few years. It is the best anti-aging product when it comes to preventing wrinkles and dark spots. Japanese or Korean, I don’t really care as long as they don’t make my skin too oily. My favourite sunscreens usually have organic and non-organic sunscreen ingredients at the same time, and I don’t mind getting a white cast either because I wear makeup every day too. In the summer I skip the cream and jump right into the last step of my routine because most sunscreens are moisturizing enough for my combination skin.

1. Eye Makeup Remover
I prefer removing mascara with a dedicated eye makeup remover and a cotton pad. It is easy and fast but I am picky when it comes to products. The only good one I have found in my local drug store is the one from Garnier… I do like Korean eye makeup removers though: Clio, the Seam, it’s Skin and Etude House make some really nice ones!

2. Cleansing Oil
Cleansing oils (and balms) are the best makeup remover, I would never use anything else anymore! I have tried so many products and I just love them all! They are cheap, gentle to the skin and can remove makeup, sunscreen, impurities, anything! If you are looking for a cleansing oil without fragrance I recommend the Japanese Softymo Speedy Oil but otherwise Korean cleansing oils are great too!

3. Face Wash
A water based face wash is always nice after removing oil and makeup with a cleansing oil. You can skip this step if you have dry skin.

4. Cleansing Pads
I’m a bit obsessed with cleansing pads… I can remove makeup, sunscreen around my hair line with them, they are great toners, gentle exfoliants too and they moisturize the skin too!

6. Hámlasztás
6/A: AHA exfoliant to get rid of dead skin cells. It is a must have step for everyone! Glycolic acid is great but if you have sensitive skin you should use PHA!
6/B: BHA to clean my pores and prevent acne and black heads.
I never really use two actives at the same time.

7. Essence/Ampoule/Lotion
If I don’t use AHA or PHA then this step becomes more important. I use a few of these, depending on my mood and the condition of my skin. Obviously I use the lightest products first, layering is my favourite thing! 🙂 If I used BHA then I usually skip everything besides the loiton/emulsion.

8. Serum

9. Facial Cream
Usually I skip this step because my skin can’t really handle more but in the winter or for people with dry skin, it is a very important step.

10. Eye Cream
I never really cared about eye creams, because I use almost all my products around my eye area too but after I turned 30 I became interested. Soon I realized it is not too much trouble in the evening, and I like the thought that I did something for my skin, so why not?

11. Oil
Especially in the winter! Oils help keeping your skin moisturized, prevent it from drying out. I recommend squalane, it is such a lovely ingredient for all skin types!

12. Sheet Mask/Overnight Mask
Yes, I LOVE sheet masks, I have a nice collection because I know these masks can save my skin in 20 minutes! Overnight packs are nice too but I have yet to find the one that could replace my beloved sheet masks! 🙂
